Animals in Folklore, Myth and Religion

Course Description & Philosophy: This course is based in a premise that Indigenous Knowledge has been passed from generation to generation through story. Lecture topics include creation myths and evolution, animals as symbols, plagues, fossils and genetic hybridization. Students in this course will analyze stories through social and scientific lenses, and will compare folklore and scientific experimentation as sources of knowledge.

Student projects: Students complete a research project, combining cultural folklore/story with a hypothesis for a biological explanation for the generational knowledge.
